The Boston Red Sox might make a move for a right-handed reliever before the playoff roster deadline on Aug. 31, according to Tim Britton of the Providence Journal.

Boston could use another right-handed reliever, but may shift current starter Ryan Dempster into the bullpen when Clay Buchholz returns.

Britton talked with Red Sox manager John Farrell about a potential trade, and Farrell told the reporter that a deal is possible:
“If there are ways we can improve, I know that those steps will be taken..... if there’s someone out there that makes sense for us to acquire, we might see that.”

Boston is not expected to be too aggressive before the deadline because they should receive internal help soon. Clay Buchholz is hoping to return to the Red Sox rotation by Sept. 10 and his return will likely move current starter Ryan Dempster to the bullpen.
Dempster served as the Cubs closer from 2005-2007 and has saved 87 games in his career. The veteran signed a two-year, $26.5 million contract with the Red Sox this offseason, but has has struggled in the rotation en route to a 6-9 record with a 4.77 ERA.
