One result of a deal would allow the Angels to control complete naming rights for the team. Thus, owner Arte Moreno could simply call his team the "Los Angeles Angels" rather than the current moniker of "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim."
Moreno changed the full name of the Angels to include “of Anaheim” in 2005 to meet a provision of their lease that states the name “Anaheim” must appear in the team’s name.
Under the current deal, the Angels could opt out of their lease after the 2016 season. The Tuesday vote would move the opt-out clause to 2019, giving more time for the two sides to come to a deal.
Under the current proposal, the Angels would pay for a major renovation to Angel Stadium with no financial relief from the city. In return, Moreno would be allowed to rent land around the stadium for one dollar per year, with developmental rights to the property for at least 66 years.
