Domonic Brown injury: Phillies OF believes rehab assignment will start Monday

Brown has been on the DL since July 25, but is nearing a return.

USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Domonic Brown believes he could begin a minor league rehab assignment as soon as Monday, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer. He would likely play for Low-A Lakewood when they play in Hagerstown, Md., that day.

Brown has been on the seven-day disabled list since July 25 with concussion symptoms. He suffered the injury two days prior when he attempted to make a diving play on defense.

Given his brief absence from the team, Brown won’t spend much time in the minors before returning to the Phillies’ lineup. He will likely take a game or two to shake off a bit of rust and to be sure any symptoms of his concussion are fully gone.

Brown would then likely return at some point during the Phillies' upcoming series against the Cubs. The two teams will face off beginning on Tuesday.

Brown has had a breakout power season with the Phillies, hitting .271/.316/.531 and launching 24 home runs over 99 games . He also was named an All-Star for the first time in his career.
