The Arizona Diamondbacks have activated starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy from the 15-day disabled list, according to the team's official Twitter page. To make room on the active roster, LHP Tony Sipp was designated for assignment.

McCarthy is returning to the Arizona rotation after a two month absence.

McCarthy has been on the shelf for two months with right shoulder inflammation. He last started on May 30, when he allowed six runs over 2.2 innings against the Rangers.
The Diamondbacks have had McCarthy make two rehab starts in Triple-A before returning to the team. After struggling to put hitters away in the first outing, he threw 85 pitches over six innings in his second start, allowing two earned runs.
Arizona signed McCarthy to a two year deal in the offseason. He had a 5.00 ERA through 11 starts before hitting the disabled list.
McCarthy is starting for the Diamondbacks as they take on the Red Sox Sunday. There had been some questions as to where he fit in, but Tyler Skaggs' recent struggles earned him a demotion back to the minors and opened up a spot in the team's rotation.
Sipp had appeared in 48 games out of the bullpen for the Diamondbacks in 2013 with a 3.86 ERA and 1.439 WHIP.
