Yasiel Puig to miss Sunday’s game vs. Cubs

Puig suffered a contusion during Saturday’s game against Chicago and is day-to-day.

USA TODAY Sports

Right fielder Yasiel Puig is not in the Los Angeles Dodgers' lineup on Sunday, one day after suffering a thumb contusion, reports Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times.

Puig injured his hand in the seventh inning of Saturday’s game while making a diving grab on a liner to right-center field. His glove dug into the ground and bent back, twisting the Cuban sensation’s wrist and jamming his thumb. He glanced at his hand before throwing the ball back into the infield. Puig remained in the game for the rest of the inning, but was replaced in the eighth.

The Dodgers listed Puig as day-to-day Saturday night. Puig has had a knack for day-to-day injuries in his brief career thus far, including a bruise on his left hip that ailed him for a time.

Skip Schumaker is making the start in right field Sunday with Puig out of the lineup. Schumaker has a .668 OPS on the season.
