Mark McGwire reflects on MLB’s latest steroids scandal

One of the faces of baseball’s “Steroid Era” shared his thoughts on Monday’s announcement of suspensions for those involved in the Biogenesis scandal.

USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Dodgers hitting coach and admitted PED user Mark McGwire showed remorse towards the "Steroid Era" of baseball, reports Arash Markazi of ESPN Los Angeles.

McGwire told Markazi that he thinks the league should do what it takes to end the usage of PEDs, saying that “bigger suspensions” should be used if necessary.

McGwire admitted to using PEDs in 2010, when he became the Cardinals' hitting coach under manager Tony La Russa.

The former Athletics and Cardinals outfielder hit 583 home runs in his career, and set the single-season home run record at the time in 1998 when he hit 70. The next season in 1999 he hit 65.

McGwire expressed happiness at the fact that the MLB Players Association is changing its tone on the issue, saying that it now wants to rid the game of PEDs. He says that he “hopes” that the game is nearing a point where PEDs are no longer a problem.
