Howie Kendrick injury: Angels 2B leaves game after hyper-extending left knee

The Angels season took another blow Monday when Howie Kendrick suffered a knee injury.

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick left Monday's game after hyper-extending his left knee, according to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com. The injury certainly looked like it could be severe, but the current diagnosis of a hyperextended left knee seems to be good news.

Kendrick was running back to try and field a fly-ball into short right field, but awkwardly landed on his left knee while trying to avoid his right fielder. The second baseman eventually had to be helped off the field after writhing on the ground in pain.

The Angels are currently 51-59, good for fourth place in the AL west and Kendrick getting injured, however severe, is another blow to an under-performing team that just recently lost Albert Pujols for the rest of the season.

The 30-year-old Kendrick, rumored to be a target for some teams at the trade deadline, is batting .302/.342/.439 in 2013.
