Jack Clark accuses Albert Pujols, Justin Verlander of steroid use

Clark claims Pujols’ former personal trainer told him that he injected Pujols with PEDs.

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Former major-leaguer Jack Clark accused Albert Pujols of taking performance-enhancing drugs on his new radio show, according to Dan Ceasar of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Clark served as the hitting coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers during the early 2000s. Clark claims he was told by Chris Mihlfeld, Pujols' former personal trainer, that Mihlfeld shot up Pujols himself.

Clark is in his first week as co-host of the afternoon drive time with Kevin Slaten at WGNU (920 AM). Slaten stated that he he believed Pujols “has been a juicer,” and Clark replied with:

“I know for a fact he was. The trainer that worked with him, threw him batting practice from Kansas City, that worked him out every day, basically told me that’s what he did.”

Mihlfeld gained national attention in 2006 when Jason Grimsley, one of the players he trained, admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs. Certain names were blacked out in the federal affidavit, and rumors swirled that Mihlfeld was one of the names. It was later reported that Mihlfeld did not appear in the affidavit.

As for Justin Verlander, Clark insinuates the Tigers right-hander used PEDs by virtue of his disappointing performance in 2013 after signing a lucrative extension this spring. "He has no arm problems, nothing's wrong. It's just the signs are there ... The greed ... they juice up, they grab the money and it's just a free pass to steal is the way I look at it."

Update: Mihlfeld has forcefully denied Clark’s claim that he gave Pujols PEDs.
