In the wake of the Alex Rios trade, the White Sox have called up newly acquired prospect Avisail Garcia.

Garcia was acquired by the White Sox just ahead of the trade deadline as the key prospect in the three-team deal with the Red Sox and Tigers that sent starting pitcher Jake Peavy to the Red Sox. The White Sox received Garcia from the Tigers in that deal along with three prospects in the low minors from Boston. Before the 2013 season, Garcia was ranked as the Tigers' second-best prospect by Baseball America and the No. 74 prospect in baseball.
Garcia hit a modest .241/.273/.373 with the Tigers over 88 plate appearances this season. He has been destroying Triple-A pitching in 2013, however, hitting .374/.410/.537 with the Tigers’ affiliate before the trade. Since joining the White Sox organization he has continued to show he has little left to prove in the minors, hitting .370/.469/.556 with their Triple-A affiliate.
While he has demonstrated promising skills at the plate throughout his minor league career, he has also displayed an extremely aggressive approach. In 139 plate appearances in the majors, Garcia has swung at 56 percent of pitches, which would be the fifth-highest rate among qualified hitters this season.
Garcia arrived in Chicago very close to game time for Chicago's matchup against the Twins on Friday, according to Scott Merkin of MLB.com, and he was not in the starting lineup.
