Rickie Weeks injury: Brewers 2B needs surgery on hamstring, out for season

Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks will miss the rest of the season with a torn tendon in his hamstring.

After injuring his hamstring in the Brewers' loss to the Giants on Wednesday, second baseman Rickie Weeks will miss the remainder of the season and likely require surgery, according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Weeks was trying to beat out a ground ball in the eighth inning of the Brewers’ game against the Giants Wednesday when he tripped over his bat running down the first base line. He fell down short of first, unable to place weight on his left leg. He needed the assistance of manager Ron Roenicke and athletic trainer Dave Yeager to leave the field.

Weeks received an MRI on the injured hamstring on Friday and, according to Rosiak, that exam revealed a tear in his hamstring tendon. Rosiak reports that weeks will seek a second opinion and that the decision on whether to undergo surgery or repair the injury with rehab is still Weeks’s call.

Weeks was struggling at the plate this season for the Brewers, hitting just .209/.306/.357 in 399 plate appearances. He has been replaced by Scooter Gennett on the team's active roster.
