Angels first baseman Albert Pujols will take legal action against former Giants and Cardinals star Jack Clark in response to Clark's assertion that Pujols and several other players of used performance enhancing drugs, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

After being accused of PED use by former ballplayer Jack Clark, Angels star Albert Pujols says he will take legal action against Clark and his employers.

Clark began working for St. Louis radio station WGNU 920 AM a little less than a week ago, but he has wasted no time grabbing headlines at his new job, accusing Pujols of using steriods based on a conversation with Pujols trainer from twelve years ago. Clark's source, Pujol's personal trainer, Chris Mihlfeld, has denied having told Clark that Pujols used PEDs, according to Craig Calcaterra of NBCSports.com. Clark also named Tigers ace Justin Verlander and retired All-Star Shawn Green as PED users. Those accusations have angered Verlander, who called them "moronic," but Pujols is the first player to openly threaten Clark with legal action. Verlander implied that he could also seek legal action against Clark's statements at some point, in speaking with Lynn Henning of the Detroit News.
Pujols has been outspoken with his denials of PED use, and issued a statement, per Bill Shaikin of the LA Times:
“I know people are tired of athletes saying they are innocent, asking for the public to believe in them ...only to have their sins exposed later down the road. But I am not one of those athletes.”
Pujols appears to be prepared to take more drastic steps than another player previously accused of PED use by aiming what would most likely be a defamation or slander lawsuit at Clark and radio station WGNU 920. Such charges can be difficult to prove, but Pujols appears willing to go to extremes in order to protect his reputation.
