Around the Bases: Pirates regain NL Central lead

Yankees 2, Orioles 0: Ivan Nova tossed a complete-game shutout, only allowing three hits for the first shutout of his career. Robinson Cano provided the offense, hitting a RBI-double in the first inning and connecting on a solo home run in the eighth. New York is now 72-63 on the year, 1/2 game ahead of the Orioles in the AL Wild Card.

Blue Jays 4, Royals 2: The Blue Jays scored three unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning, two coming on back-to-back walks issued by Aaron Crow with the bases loaded. Alcides Escobar booted a potential double-play ball that would have ended the inning with zero runs scored. R.A. Dickey threw eight strong innings, giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out six.

Diamondbacks 4, Giants 3: Eric Chavez picked up his first hit since coming off the disabled list at an opportune time for Arizona, driving in the game-winning run with an RBI-single.

The Diamondbacks have 12 walk-off wins this season, with 29 total comeback victories. Brad Ziegler threw a perfect ninth to record his eighth victory of the season.

Cubs 4, Phillies 3: Starlin Castro blasted a solo homer in the sixth to snap a 3-3 tie, his first home run in over a month. Carlos Villanueva earned the victory, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Chris Rusin. The Cubs picked up just their fourth victory at home since the All-Star break in 20 games.

Mets 11, Nationals 3: The Mets compiled a season-high 17 hits in their route of the Dodgers; Eric Young, Daniel Murphy, Josh Satin and Juan Lagares each had three hits. Zack Wheeler improved to 7-3, holding the Nationals to two runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings. Ike Davis left after the third inning with a strained muscle on his right side.

Tigers 10, Indians 5: Omar Infante hit a pair of homers, driving in five runs to give Detroit their seventh straight victory over Cleveland. Austin Jackson appeared to injure his shoulder when he slammed into the wall in the top of the eighth, but hit a two-run triple in the bottom half of the inning. Anibal Sanchez picked up a quality start, allowing three runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Red Sox 7, White Sox 2: Jake Peavy threw seven strong innings against his former team, scattering two runs and five hits over seven innings. Jacoby Ellsbury led the team with three hits, while every Red Sox starter except Will Middlebrooks and Dustin Pedroia had two hits apiece. Boston pitchers have held opponents to three or fewer runs for 11 straight games.

Pirates 7, Cardinals 1: A.J. Burnett tossed seven strong innings, giving up one run on four hits while striking out six to help the Pirates regains sole possession of the NL Central. Pittsburgh jumped over St. Louis starter Lance Lynn, tagging the right-hander for seven runs on ten hits over four innings. Russell Martin cracked a three-run homer, his 13th of the season.

Braves 5, Marlins 4 (11): B.J. Upton hit a walk-off single in the eleventh inning, giving the Braves their fifth straight victory.

Upton led Atlanta with four hits, including a two-run blast in the bottom of the sixth. Chris Johnson also had four hits with a pair of doubles, while Freddie Freeman plated a run and drew a pair of walks.

Mariners 3, Astros 1: Seattle scored three runs in the top half of the first, and Joe Saunders and three relievers held Houston to one run. Kendrys Morales, Nick Franklin and Dustin Ackley each drove in a run, leading the Mariners to their third straight win.

Reds 8, Rockies 3: Brandon Phillips finished a single shy of the cycle, scoring three times and driving in a pair of runs. Greg Reynolds earned his first major-league win in nearly two years, holding the Rockies to three runs and seven hits over three innings. Shin-Soo Choo and Ryan Ludwick also had three hits apiece.

Rangers 2, Twins 1: Leonys Martin hit a walk-off single, plating Alex Rios to give the Rangers the victory.

Adrian Beltre drove in the only other Texas run, hitting a sacrifice fly in the first. Matt Garza threw seven strong innings, allowing one run on three hits while fanning nine.

Athletics 2, Rays 1: Coco Crisp provided the offense for Oakland on Saturday, hitting a RBI-single in the sixth and a solo homer in the eighth. Sonny Gray held Tampa Bay scoreless for 6 2/3 innings, allowing five hits while striking out seven. Grant Balfour allowed a run in the top of the ninth, but recovered to record his 35th save of the year.

Angels 6, Brewers 5: Hank Cogner hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer off Jim Henderson in the ninth inning to give the Brewers their first loss of the season when leading after eight innings. J.B. Shuck, Erick Aybar and Chris Iannetta each collected a pair of hits. Jerome WIlliams tossed a quality start for the Angels, allowing three runs on eight hits over six innings.

Dodgers 2, Padres 1: Mark Ellis hit the go-ahead single in the bottom of the eighth, driving in Skip Schumaker to break a 1-1 tie. Chris Capuano kept the Dodgers in the game with seven solid innings, allowing one run on eight hits while striking out seven.
