Saltalamacchia's slam broke a 4-4 tie, which was achieved by the Yankees when Robinson Cano hit a two-run double in the top half of the inning. Koji Uehara ensured New York wouldn't do it again by tossing a scoreless ninth.

Uehara is eight batters away from tying the MLB record owned by Mark Buehrle, who retired 45 straight hitters in 2009.
Rays 3, Twins 0: Tampa Bay extended its lead for the final AL Wild Card spot and pulled to within a game of the Rangers for the top Wild Card. Chris Archer allowed three hits and struck out seven in six scoreless innings to help the Rays win consecutive games for the second time since Aug. 25.
Yunel Escobar went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Orioles 5, Blue Jays 3: Chris Davis hit his 50th home run of the season, becoming the first Oriole to reach the milestone since Brady Anderson in 1996 and the first MLB player on any team to hit 50 since Jose Bautista did it three years ago.

Baltimore remains 2½ games behind the Rays in the Wild Card chase.
Indians 3, White Sox 1: The Tribe stayed 1½ games back of Tampa Bay after rookie hurler Danny Salazar recorded nine of his 11 outs via the strikeout. Cleveland's bullpen pitched in with 5⅓ innings of one-run ball.
Tigers 6, Royals 3: Prince Fielder went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs to keep Detroit six games ahead of Cleveland in the AL Central. The Tigers' win also dropped the Royals to 3½ games out of the final AL Wild Card spot.
Athletics 9, Rangers 8: Yoenis Cespedes got the scoring started with a three-run homer in the first inning. Josh Donaldson and Brandon Moss added long balls for Oakland, who held a 9-2 lead before weathering a six-run rally by the Rangers in the eighth inning.
The A’s lead the Rangers by 4½ games in the AL West.
Cardinals 2, Mariners 1: St. Louis won on a walk-off passed ball -- courtesy of Seattle catcher Mike Zunino, who homered off of Adam Wainwright earlier in the game -- to reclaim sole possession of first place in the NL Central. Wainwright struck out six in eight innings, allowing a run on six hits.
Cubs 5, Pirates 4: Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run home run off of Jason Grilli in the seventh inning to spoil back-to-back-to-back solo shots by the Pirates three innings earlier. Pedro Alvarez got the party started with an inside-the-park homer:
Russell Martin and Garrett Jones followed with round-trippers of the over-the-wall variety for the second-place Pirates, who trail the Cards by a game.
Brewers 5, Reds 1: Kyle Lohse tossed a complete game, striking out five while allowing a run on four hits. Carlos Gomez aided Lohse in playing spoiler by collecting three hits and five RBIs.
Nationals 6, Phillies 1: Washington continued its surge toward the final NL Wild Card spot behind Ryan Zimmerman, who is on a tear:

Astros 9, Angels 7: Matt Dominguez hit a grand slam, his 20th homer of the year, to cap off a six-run fifth inning for the Astros, who improved to 10-7 against the Angels this year.
Rockies 7, Diamondbacks 5: Corey Dickerson and Troy Tulowitzki had three hits apiece for Colorado, who pounded out 16 overall, while Wilin Rosario drove in four runs.
Giants 4, Dodgers 2: Hunter Pence went 2-for-4 with a home run for the Giants, who scored three times in the seventh inning against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw.
