Joe Mauer injury: Twins C to miss road trip

Mauer has been out since mid-August with post-concussion symptoms.

Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer will not be traveling with the team for a week-long road trip to Chicago and Oakland, reports Phil Miller of the Star Tribune.

Manager Ron Gardenhire still expects Mauer to play again this season when he is healthy. Mauer has been dealing with post-concussion symptoms after being struck by a foul-tip in mid-August. He was placed on the special 7-day DL for concussions the day after, when he experienced dizziness during batting practice.

There had been a possibility that Mauer would be able to rejoin the Twins for their upcoming road trip after he appeared to be progressing well. It is still possible that he could meet up with the team in the middle of the trip if he feels noticeably better.

Mauer has played in 113 games this season for the Twins, hitting .324/.404/.476 with 11 home runs. Mauer has been playing some first base in recent years when he hasn’t been catching. It’s possible he could see time at the position if he does return in 2013.
