The Pittsburgh Pirates expect starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez to be healthy and ready for the beginning of spring training in 2014, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.
Wandy Rodriguez injury: Pirates expect LHP to be ready for spring training
The lefty made just 12 starts this season before being shut down due to arm injuries.

Pittsburgh made the decision on Saturday to officially shut Rodriguez down for the season. The left-hander is suffering from several arm injuries, including tendinitis in the elbow and inflammation in his forearm.
The Pirates had Rodriguez throw a simulated game Thursday after he felt some soreness following a minor league rehab start. He threw 67 pitches in the simulated game and, judging by the Pirates shutting him down for the season, likely did not feel quite right afterwards.
Rodriguez started 12 games for the Pirates in 2013, posting a 3.59 ERA and 1.12 WHIP.
Rodriguez has a player option worth $13 million for the 2014 season. He’ll presumably exercise that option at age 34, but could hit free agency by declining it.
