NL playoff standings: Reds tie Pirates; Cardinals extend lead in Central

The Cardinals took care of business against the Brewers while the Pirates and Reds duked it out for the top Wild Card spot in the NL, with Cincy coming out on top.

The Cincinnati Reds knocked off the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-5, in 10 innings on Friday to force a tie in the National League Wild Card standings.

The Reds rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the ninth inning on the road, inching closer to gaining a chance to host the Pirates in the one-game Wild Card playoff, assuming both teams stay behind the St. Louis Cardinals and ahead of the Washington Nationals.

The Cards extended their advantage in the NL Central to two games with a 7-6 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. The Nats stayed alive, and prevented the Atlanta Braves from clinching the NL East, by routing the Miami Marlins, 8-0. Washington remains five games behind the Pirates and Reds in the Wild Card standings.

The Cardinals are a half-game behind the Braves for the best record in the NL, while the Los Angeles Dodgers sit two games behind the Cards after losing to the San Diego Padres, 2-0.
