San Francisco Giants broadcaster Jon Miller expects the team will attempt to re-sign pitcher Tim Lincecum and outfielder Hunter Pence when they become free agents following the 2013 season, Miller said in an interview with Sports on Earth.

In not-at-all-shocking news, the Giants hope to keep both of their big soon-to-be free agents.

As recently as 2011, when Lincecum was coming off his fourth consecutive All-Star appearance, it would have been a no-brainer that the Giants would attempt to sign the right-hander. However, he has not looked like the same pitcher the last two seasons as his velocity has dropped. Overall between 2012 and 2013, he has a 4.80 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP.
Lincecum is making $22 million this season. It’s very unlikely that he’ll see anything close to that kind of yearly salary in a new deal, however.
Pence had been the subject of many trade rumors in late July. Even at that time, the Giants had said they would like to re-sign Pence. He has hit for an 834 OPS in 2013 while tying a career-high with 25 home runs.
At the very least, the Giants are planning on making a qualifying offer to both players, though the team does not expect either player to accept. If that is the case and either player signs with another team, San Francisco would at least receive draft pick compensation.
