Miguel Cabrera injury update: Jim Leyland concerned about Tigers 3B

Cabrera is still dealing with several lingering injuries, causing his manager to worry.

Detroit Tigers' third baseman Miguel Cabrera's groin injury "alarmed" Manager Jim Leyland, reports the Detroit News.

“I’m a little concerned about it, to be perfectly honest. I actually thought he was getting better,” Leyland told reporters.

The Tigers do not have Cabrera in the Sunday lineup. He left Saturday’s game in the tenth inning after straining his groin and is being treated as day-to-day. The injury is not a hernia -- that diagnosis was ruled out by Tigers’ Head Trainer Kevin Rand.

Cabrera has been suffering from several injuries recently. Most notable among those is a sore abdominal region suffered earlier in the season. That area is still black-and-blue.

Cabrera, 30, hasn't let those injuries slow him down. His chase for a second consecutive Triple Crown is likely over with Orioles slugger Chris Carter outpacing him in home runs. Despite several lingering injuries, over the past two months he still hit .325/.422/.597 with 12 home runs in 43 games.

With only a handful of games left in the season, the Tigers have a six game lead in the AL Central and are near locks to win the division. Though the team still has postseason positioning to fight for, it’s likely they will be cautious with their star player until the playoffs.
