Alex Rios hits for the cycle

The Rangers outfielder became the third player to hit for the cycle this season.

Texas Rangers outfielder Alex Rios hit for the cycle against the Houston Astros on Monday.

For more on Rios and the Rangers, head over to Lone Star Ball.

Rios doubled and singled off of Houston starter Jordan Lyles, took 26-year-old rookie reliever David Martinez deep in the fourth, and tripled in the sixth inning, again against Martinez.

The cycle is the first of Rios' career and the first for the Rangers since Adrian Beltre accomplished the feat on Aug. 24, 2012 against the Minnesota Twins. Rios joins Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout and Astros outielder Brandon Barnes as the only players to hit for the cycle in 2013.

Rios was acquired by the Rangers from the Chicago White Sox on Aug. 9. He entered Monday hitting .275/.323/.422 on the season.

The Rangers, who entered Monday trailing the Cleveland Indians by 1½ games in the American League Wild Card race, increased their lead over the Astros to 12-0 after the sixth inning.
