The Cincinnati Reds are headed to the postseason for the third time in four seasons after earning a 3-2 win over the New York Mets on Monday, coupled with the Washington Nationals' 4-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Reds clinch postseason berth
The Reds are in the playoffs for the second straight season but still have work to do if they want to avoid the Wild Card play-in game -- or at least claim home-field advantage for it.


Shin-Soo Choo hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to kick-start the celebration for the Reds, who reportedly declined to accelerate the party even though the Nationals failed to score the tying run in the top of the ninth in St. Louis.
The Reds remain two games behind the Cardinals in the NL Central with five games to play, and are currently slated to face the Pittsburgh Pirates, who also clinched on Monday, in the NL Wild Card play-in game.
Cincinnati begins a pivotal three-game series against Pittsburgh on Friday to close out the regular season.
