The Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds clinched the last two playoff spots up for grabs in the National League following the Washington Nationals' loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in a game that ended a few minutes after the Reds and Pirates won their contests.
NL playoff standings: Reds, Pirates clinch; Nationals eliminated
All five playoff teams in the NL are set.

The Nationals are eliminated from postseason contention, while the Pirates and Reds remain two games behind the Cardinals in the NL Central and will begin a three-game series on Friday that will likely decide home field advantage in the NL Wild Card game.
The Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves have already nailed down their postseason spots. The Dodgers and Braves clinched their divisions, meaning both teams are guaranteed to begin their playoff runs in the NL Division Series.
The Cards have some work to do, starting with two more games against the Nationals before closing the season with a three-game home set against the last-place Chicago Cubs.
