The St. Louis Cardinals clinched the National League Central title with their 7-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday.

The division crown represents St. Louis' first since 2009, though its has finished in first five times over the past 10 seasons. The Cardinals' win crashed the division title hopes of the Pirates, who defeated the Reds on Friday and will face them in the NL Wild Card play-in game following the completion of the teams' three-game, season-ending series.
Yadier Molina had two hits and drove in three while Matt Holliday and David Freese went yard for the Cards, whose offense gave starting pitcher Lance Lynn more than enough run support. Lynn notched nine strikeouts and allowed four hits across six scoreless innings in what was his third consecutive quality start.
The Cardinals have nine NL Central championships in the division’s 19 years of existence. The franchise has finished in first place 12 times since the divisional era began in 1969.
