Hill has played through a fractured hand for most of the season but has shown significant progress recently.

The fracture had shown little-to-no progress in healing two months ago. Hill had another MRI on Friday and was told by doctors that his hand was now 80 percent healed.
“We didn’t want to do surgery anyway, and now this definitely confirms that we won’t,” Hill told reporters. “I was happy to hear that yesterday.”
Hill sustained the injury in early April when he was struck by a pitch and spent six weeks on the disabled list. The injury was described as a “non-union fracture,” meaning the bone failed to heal.
He returned to the lineup in late July, opting to play through the injury rather than sit and hope it would heal quicker. In 76 games since coming off the disabled list, he has hit .292/.351/.455 with nine home runs.
Doctors aren’t sure what caused the broken hand to heal quicker, Hill said.
