The recovery time for the surgery is typically around 4-6 weeks, meaning Marisnick should be ready well before spring training in 2014. He had reportedly been feeling soreness in the knee for several months.
Ranked by Baseball America as MLB’s No. 64 prospect and No. 70 by MLB.com prior to the season, Marisnick was called up in late-July and played in 32 games for the Marlins, including 30 starts in center field. Marisnick was brought up straight from Double-A and his inexperience showed as he hit for just a .478 OPS.
In 67 games for Double-A Jacksonville this season, Marisnick hit .294/.358/.502 with 12 home runs and 11 stolen bases.
With a good spring training, Marisnick should contend for a spot on the Marlins' 2014 Opening Day roster. It's possible he could even contend for a starting spot should Justin Ruggiano falter or Giancarlo Stanton be traded.
