Mets interested in bringing back RHP LaTroy Hawkins, per report

Hawkins would likely receive a contract similar to the one-year deal he signed prior to 2013.

The New York Mets would like to bring relief pitcher LaTroy Hawkins for the 2014 season and have already contacted his agents, reports Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News.

The feeling appears to be mutual as the 40-year-old Hawkins is reportedly mulling over coming back to the team. This season was Hawkins’ first with the Mets after signing with New York at the end of January.

Hawkins has had one of the best seasons of his career in 2013, posting a 2.93 ERA and 1.15 WHIP while tossing just under 71 innings over 72 games. Those are the most games and innings he has pitched since 2004 when he served as the closer for the Chicago Cubs.

Given his advanced age and the number of pitches on his arm this season, Hawkins is likely to receive a one-year deal similar to his contract this season. The Mets are paying Hawkins $1 million for his services in 2013.
