Carlos Gonzalez injury: Rockies OF activated from DL

Gonzalez may not play much over the final month of the season with his finger sprain still lingering.

The Colorado Rockies activated outfielder Carlos Gonzalez from the disabled list Tuesday, according to the Rockies' official Twitter page.

Gonzalez will be available to play defense and pinch-run on Tuesday, but appears to be unable to hit yet. The team is hoping he will be able to take some swings on Wednesday.

More Rockies coverage: Purple Row

The Rockies placed Gonzalez on the disabled list Aug. 7 with a sprained middle finger on his right hand. Though he does not have any structural damage, it has been a long recovery for the two-time All Star. He took some swings in batting practice over a week ago and had been on a minor league rehab stint, but was scratched from a rehab game on Monday.

During any other month of the season, Gonzalez would likely remain on the disabled list. However, with the roster expansion in September, it doesn’t hurt the team to have him on the active roster. Though he is limited in his duties, anything he can provide to the Rockies can be seen as a net positive.

Given the lingering nature of his injury and the fact that the Rockies have little left to play for this season, Gonzalez will likely play sparingly over the final month.
