Alex Rodriguez suspension hearing to begin Monday

The appeal is expected to last five days, with a decision likely reached in the next 30.

New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez and his team of lawyers will begin the appeal of his 211-game suspension on Monday for violating the joint drug agreement and the collective bargaining agreement.

The appeal will take place at Major League Baseball’s offices in Manhattan, with a three-man panel listening to the argument. The panel consists of MLB vice president Rob Manfred, MLB Players Association general counsel David Prouty and independent arbitrator Fredric Horowitz.

The hearing is expected to last around five days, then the group will decide within the next 25 days whether to uphold, reduce or overturn Rodriguez’s suspension.

Rodriguez sounded ready to begin the hearings, telling Andrew Marchand of ESPNNewYork.com

“Let’s get it on. It starts on Monday. We’ve got to face it head on...I’ll be there every day. I’m fighting for my whole life, my whole legacy. I hope everyone is there.”

Sources close to Rodriguez and his advisers will present evidence that Rodriguez has been the victim of a conspiracy between the MLB and the Yankees to dump the remainder of his $275 million contract, according to the New York Daily News. MLB will center their case around evidence gathered from subpoenas and informants, as well as testimony from former Biognesis owner Anthony Bosch.
