St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig left the team's game on Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds in the fourth inning with a sprained left foot, the team announced. Craig will be re-evaluated on Thursday in St. Louis with an MRI exam after initial x-rays in Cincinnati were inconclusive, per Jennifer Langosch of MLB.com.

The Cardinals potentially suffered a big blow when Allen Craig fell to the dirt awkwardly in the fourth inning on Wednesday.

The injury occurred after Craig reached first base safely on an error by Reds first baseman Joey Votto. Craig rounded first and appeared to be headed toward second when he crumbled to the ground in pain. Unable to get back to first base, Craig was tagged by Votto for the second out of the inning. He was replaced in the bottom half of the inning by Matt Adams.
Craig was 1-for-2 against Reds starter Bronson Arroyo prior to the injury. In 561 plate appearances entering Monday, the 29-year-old native of Mission Viejo, Calif., owns a .314/.373/.457 line with 13 home runs. In July, Craig was named to the National League All-Star squad for the first time in his career.
