Benches cleared during the fifth inning of a contest between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.
Pirates’, Brewers’ benches empty after Justin Morneau HBP
The Pirates didn’t take too kindly to their newest acquisition getting nailed with a high-and-tight fastball from Brewers pitcher Wily Peralta.

Brewers starter Wily Peralta hit Justin Morneau in the right arm with a high-and-inside fastball after Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen took a long look at his home run in the previous at-bat. McCutchen appeared to not actually know where the ball was after it left his bat, but Peralta and the Brewers might have interpreted the all-star's actions differently.
No punches, or even shoves, were exchanged, and as of the eighth inning there was no retaliation on the part of the Pirates. The Bucs are in first place in the NL Central and are on their way to their first winning season in 20 years, so a brawl is probably the last thing on their minds.
Morneau suffered concussions in 2010 and 2011 that have limited his production since a string of four very good full seasons from 2006 through 2009 with the Minnesota Twins. He was acquired by the Pirates on Aug. 31 in exchange for outfielder Alex Presley.
