Brandon Phillips injury: Reds’ 2B leaves game with left quad contusion
Phillips was pinch hit for in the seventh inning, but how he suffered the injury is unknown.

Cesar Izturis pinch hit for Phillips in the seventh inning with two outs and runners on first and second. Even with the Reds holding a 6-2 lead, it was an odd time for manager Dusty Baker to remove the top RBI man on the team from the lineup. Izturis grounded out to end the inning then replaced Phillips in the field. There is no word on how Phillips suffered the injury at this time.
Phillips has been a key player for the Reds this year, leading the team with 101 RBI, including the one he earned in the second inning Thursday. He has attracted a good deal of attention in the media for his RBI production this year after being moved into the cleanup spot when the team lost Ryan Ludwick in the first game of the season. He is hitting .268/.316/.421, roughly league-average.
