Yankees 8, Red Sox 7: Jacoby Ellsbury singled and stole second to score the winning run on Shane Victorino's hit in the top of the tenth, but pinch-runner Quentin Berry deserves much of the credit here. He did his best Dave Roberts impression, pinch-running for first baseman Mike Napoli before stealing second and scoring against the great Mariano Rivera to reverse what I am calling the Curse of Dan Shaughnessy:
Around the Bases: Red Sox get to Mariano, Moustakas walks off, Cingrani runs wild
The Red Sox handed Mariano Rivera his sixth blown save of the season. Mike Moustakas goes deep for a 14th inning walk-off and Tony Cingrani channels his inner Billy Hamilton to highlight Thursday’s baseball action.

Not long after that tweet went out, the Yankees rallied for a six-run seventh inning to give them a 8-7 lead. Of course, the real curse here is the fact that Twitter is providing new ways for Dan Shaughnessy to communicate to the world. Koji Uehara did what Mariano could not, getting the save in the 10th with a prefect inning. Ivan Nova showed some long-unseen vulnerability here, needing 96 pitches to get through four innings and allowing three runs on five hits and two walks.
Royals 7, Mariners 6 (14 innings): Mike Moustakas led off the 14th inning with a solo home run to give the Royals the walk-off win in another wild, back-and-forth battle. Seattle kicked things off with a three-run first that included a two-run shot from Justin Smoak, than added runs in the third and fourth go up 5-0. Alex Gordon's two-run shot in the fifth woke the Royals up, starting a three-run inning. Another three-run frame in the seventh put Kansas City up, but ex-Royal Raul Ibanez took Royals closer Greg Holland deep in the ninth to send this one into extra innings. Geez, I'm tired just recapping it all.
Orioles 3, White Sox 1: Miguel Gonzalez was on his game and he takes the win here with some help from the long ball. All of the Orioles runs can on solo shots in this game. Adam Jones put the Orioles on the board with one in the first, J.J. Hardy added another to lead off the fifth and Brian Roberts followed suit two batters later with his first homer of the year. Gonzalez went seven innings allowing just one run on four hits and one walk with six strike outs.
Reds 6, Cardinals 2: Tony Cingrani was strong on the mound in his first start off the DL and he was even better on the bases, giving the Reds their first stolen base by a pitcher since 2008 after bunting for a single. He then took third when ball four got away from catcher Tony Cruz, eventually scoring a run. Cingrani gave the Reds five innings on the mound, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. The Reds offense got it done with the slow-and-steady approach, scoring one run in every inning from the second to the seventh while getting solo shots from Todd Frazier, Shin-Soo Choo and Jay Bruce. David Freese went deep for St. Louis.
Astros 3, Athletics 1: It was a pitcher's duel here in Oakland as Brad Peacock battled Sonny Gray into the late innings. Peacock pitched into the eighth before allowing a run and held the Athletics to just two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out seven. Gray went deeper, pitching eight full inning, but he struggled early on, allowing six the seven hits against him in the first two innings, putting the Athletics in a 3-0 hole with help from a Yoenis Cespedes error. Oakland's eighth inning rally feel short as Josh Fields came in with two outs to get Cespedes with runs on first and second and then hung around for the four-out save.
Diamondbacks 4, Giants 2: Arizona rallied for four runs in the fifth inning to erase an early 2-0 deficit. Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run double in the rally to give him 106 RBI on the season, as the Diamondbacks remained seven games back of the Reds for the second wild card in the National League. Pablo Sandoval had two hits for the Giants, including his second triple of the season.
Angels 6, Rays 2: The Halos scored three runs in the second and three more in the third to beat David Price, highlighted by a three-run double by Collin Cowgill. Tampa Bay fell to 2-5 on their 10-game road trip, but remain 2.5 games up on the Yankees for the second wild card spot in the American League. Josh Hamilton went 2-for-4 for the Angels.
