146 MLB players file for salary arbitration
A total of 146 major league players filed for salary arbitration on Tuesday, an increase of 13 over 2013.

Players and teams will next exchange salary figures on Friday and, in each case where the sides can’t come to an agreement, they will head to an arbitration hearing before a three-person panel scheduled between Feb. 1 and Feb. 20. In 2013 there were 133 players to file for arbitration, but for the first time in the 40-year history of the process, no cases went to hearing.
The Padres and outfielder Seth Smith avoided arbitration on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year contract.
