Tony La Russa has barely had time to adjust to life as a member of the Hall of Fame, but he may soon be adjusting to a new job, at least according to a report from USA Today's Bob Nightengale. The Seattle Mariners are currently looking to fill the void left by retiring team president Chuck Armstrong, and two sources tell Nightengale that La Russa is on the team's short list of candidates.
Tony La Russa could be Mariners’ next president
With Chuck Armstrong retiring, the Mariners have Tony La Russa on their short list of candidates to replace him.

The Mariners will look internally to replace Armstrong, but if they don't find what they're looking for, La Russa comes with an impressive resume and the recommendation of many in the game. La Russa did not comment on the Mariners specifically, but told Nightengale that he is interested in returning to a major league team and that he would be interested in the right front office position. La Russa last managed the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011 and retired after winning his third World Series.

The Mariners have had a busy few weeks headlined by a 10-year deal with Robinson Cano, but they were also rocked by a scathing article chronicling internal conflicts within the organization, with many former employees speaking on the record to Geoff Baker. It's unclear how La Russa would change the organizational culture in Seattle or how much of a role he would have in baseball operations decisions, but bringing La Russa into the fold may help repair its image and make Seattle desirable for future free agents.
