Watch every Royals extra-inning home run this postseason

SB Nation 2014 MLB Bracket

The Kansas City Royals were last in the majors in home runs during the regular season, with 95 long balls in 162 games. But in the playoffs they have turned on the power so far, with seven home runs in five games, including three in Friday night's 8-6 win over the Baltimore Orioles in Game 1 of the ALCS in Baltimore.

What makes the power surge even more amazing is that four of the home runs have been hit in extra-innings. Two were hit on Friday night, first a solo shot by Alex Gordon to give the Royals the lead, and then a two-run shot by Mike Moustakas to provide the much-needed insurance.

The Royals have four extra-inning home runs in this postseason alone -- all on the road, too. They had none in their previous 46 years of existence, though that included only three extra-inning playoff games in total.

In the history of postseason play, there have only been 66 extra-inning home runs, and there have only been two other seasons with at least four extra-inning home runs by everybody. In 1995 there were seven extra-inning home runs, and in 2004 there were five.

The only other single team to hit more than two extra-inning home runs in any single postseason was the 2011 Texas Rangers, who hit three while coming within one strike of winning the World Series.

These Royals, with four extra-inning home runs, are making history all by themselves, and might just be the least likely team to do so. So enjoy these four extra-inning home runs, because you might not see anything like it ever again.
