With the 2014 baseball season down to a best-of-three format, the Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants will send their aces to the mound in the pivotal Game 5 of the World Series at AT&T Park in San Francisco. The tied series drew appreciation from Royals manager Ned Yost, even after his team lost 11-4 in Game 4 on Saturday.

“We’re tied 2-2, how much more fun can that be? There is nothing better in the world,” Yost said. “I’ve never felt so good about getting my tail whooped in my life.”
The first pitch of Game 5 is slated for 8:07 p.m. ET, with pregame coverage starting on FOX at 7 p.m., a half-hour earlier than normal. Joe Buck, Harold Reynolds and Tom Verducci will be on the call, with reporters Ken Rosenthal and Erin Andrews also on the broadcast.
Game 5 can also be seen online with MLB.tv, or can be watched via the Fox Sports Go app.
The game will be broadcast nationally as well by ESPN Radio, with Dan Shulman and Aaron Boone on the call.
The Giants have asked a lot of Madison Bumgarner this season and he has delivered, especially in the postseason. The 25-year-old left-hander is 3-1 with a 1.40 ERA in five starts this postseason, including seven strong innings in a 7-1 Giants win in Game 1.
Bumgarner has lasted at least seven innings in all five postseason starts, averaging 7.73 innings per start. Counting his 33 starts during the regular season, Bumgarner has thrown 256 innings in 2014, an increase of nearly 55 innings (27 percent) over 2013. But on Saturday the Giants’ ace downplayed the extra workload.
“I don’t think [the increase] has anything to do with anything,” Bumgarner said. “I work hard and take care of myself, and I think that’s what’s important, is that you get your work in, take care of your body and make sure you’re ready.”
But it might not be Bumgarner who decides Game 5, but rather the Giants offense against Royals starter James Shields. The unfortunately-nicknamed "Big Game James" has been anything but this postseason, with a 7.11 ERA in four starts, including a three-inning clunker in Game 1 in Kansas City.
The Giants, who exploded for 11 runs on 16 hits in Saturday night’s Game 4 victory to even the series, is 9-1 this postseason when scoring three or more runs. San Francisco is 1-3 when scoring two or fewer runs.
