NLDS Game 1: Jake Peavy, Giants beat Nationals in opener
Jake Peavy pitched scoreless ball into the sixth inning, and the Giants got a trio of key hits to beat the Nationals, 3-2, in Game 1 of the NLDS on Friday afternoon in Washington.

Some timely hitting and a solid start from Jake Peavy gave the Giants a 3-2 victory over the Nationals in Game 1 of the National League Division Series at Nationals Park in Washington.
Joe Panik was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, and scored what proved to be the winning run in the seventh on a single by Buster Posey.
Jake Peavy didn't allow a hit until Bryce Harper led off the fifth inning with an infield single. That was the only hit he allowed until a double and a walk in the sixth inning chased him from the game after 104 pitches. The Giants escaped the sixth with no damage, giving Peavy the win with his 5⅔ innings of scoreless ball, his first victory in six career postseason starts.
Washington's offense was dormant until the seventh inning, when Harper hit a mammoth home run into the third deck in right field. One out later, Asdrubal Cabrera followed with another solo shot. Both homers came off Hunter Strickland, cutting the Giants' lead to one run.
San Francisco closer Santiago Casilla finished off the win with a scoreless ninth inning, needing only seven pitches.
Brandon Belt added two hits and an RBI in the win for the Giants.
Game 2 of the NLDS is Saturday at 5:30 p.m. ET, with recent no-hit author Jordan Zimmermann pitching for Washington against Tim Hudson for San Francisco. The game will be televised by Fox Sports 1.
