World Series Game 7 draws 2nd-highest MLB TV ratings since 2004

The San Francisco Giants' win over the Kansas City Royals in Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday attracted 52 million viewers and drew a 13.7 rating, the second-highest-rated Major League Baseball game since the final game of the 2004 Fall Classic.

The broadcast did exceptionally well in Kansas City, where fans were cheering for their team to win its first World Series in almost 30 years. There, 83 percent of televisions were tuned in at the conclusion of the contest, which drew an average local rating of 58.3. That’s the third-highest local figure for any baseball game in history, placing just behind Phoenix’s 62.3 in 2001 and Boston’s 59.0 three years later.

San Francisco drew a 38.8 local rating, higher than any game in each of the team’s two recent championship runs and the highest since Game 7 of the 2002 World Series.

“The incredible 2014 postseason has once again provided FOX with a top-10 prime time show and has made FOX Sports 1 the fastest-growing network in all of television,” Fox Sports chief operation officer Eric Shanks said in a press release on Thursday. “Combine that with a record-breaking World Series for FOX Deportes and FOX Sports GO, and another dominant season for our local FOX Sports Regional Networks, and our overall MLB business has never been stronger.”
