Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano will miss the remainder of the Japan All-Star Series after suffering a broken toe in Tokyo early Saturday morning.

Cano was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning from pitcher Yuki Nishi, and immediately left the game, replaced by Jose Altuve of the Astros. The Mariners confirmed that Cano suffered a non-displaced fracture of the small toe on his right foot, and is expected to miss three to four weeks, the team announced on Saturday.
Seattle senior athletic trainer Rick Griffin spoke with Cano, who said there was no pain. The second baseman will be able to resume baseball activities in mid-December. The team does not expect the injury to hamper Cano’s readiness for spring training.
“It’s part of the game, getting hurt,” Cano told Anthony DiComo of MLB.com Saturday. “I’ll be fine.”
Cano hit .314/.382/.454 with 14 home runs and 37 doubles in his first season with the Mariners after signing a 10-year, $240 million contract with Seattle, his sixth straight season hitting at least .300. Cano has been an iron man, playing in 157 games in 2014 and averaging 160 games played over each of the last eight seasons. With 1,277 games played from 2007-2014, Cano is tied with Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez for the most in baseball during that span.
Cano was 4-for-13 (.308) with a run scored and an RBI in four games on the Japan trip, including an exhibition game against a team consisting of players from the Hanshin Tigers and Yomiuri Giants Tuesday.
The team of major league players lost its third consecutive game to Samurai Japan Saturday, getting no-hit in a 4-0 loss. Japan has won the first three games of the five-game exhibition series with the two teams slated to play next Sunday at 1 a.m. ET in the Tokyo Dome.
