Rays' third baseman Evan Longoria has been in Japan for the All-Star series with fellow MLB players, and this caused him to miss the birth of his son. Well, only sort of, thanks to modern technology: Longoria watched his wife give birth in real-time thanks to the power of FaceTime on his phone. The future, everyone!
Evan Longoria used FaceTime to watch his son being born
It was his only option while playing baseball in Japan.

[Longoria] had been keeping an eye on his phone during Saturday’s game, saw a text from Edmondson that she was in labor, and then left the game to watch the big event via FaceTime. “I got to see it all on FaceTime,” Longoria said. “It was a pretty cool moment.”
One wonders what the conversation between Longoria and his wife was like as he packed to head off to Japan for an “all-star” series that features some of baseball most must-see talents like journeymen Franklin Morales and Chris Capuano. You know, instead of staying at home during the offseason to witness the birth of their second child. Your friend who angrily calls in to sports radio shows has a new favorite player, at least.
