The Philadelphia Phillies and San Francisco Giants are the front-runners for free-agent outfielder Yasmany Tomas, according to Baseball America's Ben Badler.
Phillies, Giants the favorites for Yasmany Tomas, per report
Both teams have the resources and the need to bring the Cuban sensation into the fold.

The Phillies might be the leading candidate to sign Tomas, per Badler. Philadelphia is in desperate need of young talent and has a hole in its outfield due in part to the regression of Domonic Brown, who finished with a 77 OPS+ and just 10 home runs a year after hitting 27 homers and posting a .272/.324/.494 line in his first full season.
The Giants will have a major hole to fill in their lineup if Pablo Sandoval signs with another team, and with little help on the way from the minors and few tradable assets, the team will have to rely on free agency to replace the lost production. The club wants to establish itself in the Cuban market, Badler adds, and signing Tomas would be a big first step.
The Athletics, White Sox and Padres are among several other teams who are interested in the 26-year-old slugger. The Yankees, who are known for recent free-agent surprises, shouldn't be counted out either, writes SB Nation's Grant Brisbee.
