Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish has been cleared to start throwing in early December after an MRI revealed no damage to his right elbow, the team announced Tuesday.
Yu Darvish cleared to begin throwing after MRI
The Rangers’ No. 1 starter is healthy and set to continue his usual offseason workout program.

Dr. Keith Meister examined Darvish and reported the scan “looked fine.” That allows Darvish, who is in the midst of his regular offseason workout routine, to pick up a normal throwing schedule. The 28-year-old right-hander is expected to remain in Texas for “at least the next several weeks” while he continues his training regimen.
Darvish missed the final month and a half of the season with inflammation in his throwing elbow. He was initially placed on the disabled list Aug. 13 and was shut down for the season Sept. 6. Darvish served two separate stints on the DL in 2014 but posted another strong season, finishing with a 3.06 ERA and 11.3 strikeouts per nine innings in 22 starts.
Since his arrival from Japan and subsequent six-year, $56 million deal, Darvish has posted a 3.27 ERA, struck out more than 11 batters per nine innings and made three All-Star teams.
