The Chicago Cubs’ shortstop was detained following a shooting incident in the Dominican Republic, according to reports.

According to Deadspin, citing a report in Spanish from El Caribe, seven people in total were detained by police following the incident, which occurred early Saturday at Ocean Club, a nightclub in Montecristi, the town where Castro was born. Castro’s brother and bodyguards were also allegedly involved, according to the report, along with “a group of men including the driver and assistant to Montecristi’s mayor.”
According to Castro’s agent, Paul Kinzer, the shortstop “voluntarily” provided information to the authorities.
Starlin Castro's agent, Paul Kinzer, said his client "had nothing to do" with the shooting and was never detained by authorities.
