First baseman Lance Berkman and pitcher Roy Oswalt will sign one-day contracts to officially retire with the Houston Astros, reports David Coleman of the Crawfish Boxes.

Berkman announced his intention to retire two weeks ago while Oswalt made his decision on Tuesday. The two players are best known for their time with the Astros: Berkman played his first 11-and-a-half seasons in Houston while Oswalt spent his first nine-and-a-half years with the organization. The two played together from the time Oswalt broke into the majors in 2001 until both were traded mid-season in 2010.

From the time of Oswalt’s first start on May 6, 2001 until Oswalt’s last game with the Astros on July 24, 2010 (Berkman was dealt four days after him), the Astros went 784-742. They won the NL Central in their first year together, then finished second five consecutive years.
During Berkman and Oswalt's time together in Houston, the Astros made the playoffs three times. The two carried the club to a pennant in 2005, but fell short of a World Series title as they were swept by the Chicago White Sox.
The two players will sign their one-day contracts for April 5 and be honored together by the Astros in a ceremony before the team's game against the Angels in Minute Maid Park.
