Rangers injury news: Jurickson Profar cleared to begin throwing
The Rangers are a bit banged up to begin spring training, but they received good news on Monday as their young second baseman was cleared to throw again.

The former top-prospect is dealing with tendinitis in his shoulder, which will likely require a few more weeks of recovery before he can start playing in exhibition games, according to Evan Grant of Dallas Morning News. It is unclear what Profar’s role will be once the season begins, but Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said the club would proceed slowly with him to avoid the tendinitis getting worse.

Profar, 21 this week, struggled in 2013 as he got his first real taste of the big leagues. He batted just .234/.308/.336 and struck out at a much higher rate than he did at any time in the minors. He remains incredibly young and talented, though, and could be a key piece for Texas as they push for the American League West crown.
In other injury news, Grant also reports Derek Holland’s arrival in Arizona will be delayed another week so he can get his surgically-repaired knee checked out. Holland underwent surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee in January and is expected to miss at least a month of the regular season, if not more.
In bullpen news, Shawn Tolleson is back to going full-speed in drills after spraining his ankle last week. Relief prospect Ben Rowen has also been cleared after experiencing some biceps tendonitis.
