Recently, the Mariners have been in contact with veteran lefty Chris Capuano, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman. The team has been rumored to be in the market for another starting pitcher, and general manager Jack Zduriencik has experience with Capuano from their time in Milwaukee, so the two parties could end up being a good fit for one another.

Capuano, 35, has been reported to desire a two-year deal, so the length of a potential partnership with Seattle might be a hangup, and there is “a difference of opinion over the price,” but discussions are currently ongoing.

The nine-year veteran has spent the last two seasons in Los Angeles with the Dodgers, pitching to a 3.91 ERA in 304 innings over those two seasons. He missed time with groin and calf injuries last year, most notably when he re-aggravated his calf strain while sprinting toward the Zack Greinke-Carlos Quentin skirmish in April.
The Mariners rotation is set to feature a mix of Felix Hernandez, Hisashi Iwakuma, Scott Baker, Taijuan Walker, James Paxton, Erasmo Ramirez and Hector Noesi, but Iwakuma is currently sidelined with a finger injury and Seattle might not want to rush its prospects into full-time workloads at this stage in their careers.
Capuano would help the Mariners mitigate their current and future ailments, and allow them to properly monitor the innings thrown by their young arms.
