FOX broadcast schedule released, includes World Series streaming

The new national television is bringing series changes to how we watch baseball. Blackouts will be more limited, and for the first time, fans will be able to stream World Series games.

USA TODAY Sports

The multi-platform media rights agreement between Major League Baseball and various television outlets agreed to in October of 2012 is taking effecting this year and fans of the game will notice some rather significant changes according to Maury Brown of the Biz of Baseball and MLB. The new deal eliminates blackouts during the Saturday FOX window and will allow MLBTV subscribers the opportunity to stream previously blacked out games, including the World Series.

The deal also increases FOX’s national portfolio from 26 games per season to 52, with the extra games getting added in as Saturday doubleheaders and occasional weeknight broadcasts across FOX and FOX Sports 1. In previous years, fans in the United States would only have the ability to watch one game during FOX’s exclusive Saturday window, but under the new agreement they will be able to watch concurrent, out-of-market games on MLBTV.

Aside from lifting the blackout, the agreement also allows viewers to stream the All-Star Game and playoff games carried by FOX via MLBTV on FOX’s participating video providers. This streaming feature includes every World Series game and select games in the Division and Championship Series.

This announcement also included the tentative MLB on FOX broadcast schedule for the 2014 season which kicks off with the Twins at Indians, Saturday April 5 at 1pm on FOX Sports 1 and continues with the Giants at Dodgers at 4pm.
