After a strong run with Puerto Rico's Indios de Mayaguez this winter, former big league starter Joel Pineiro hopes to receive a chance to grind his way back to the majors this spring, as MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez reports.

After a strong start in the Caribbean Series, Pineiro has his eyes set on Kazmir-ing his way back to the majors -- or at least spring training.

In the past, players such as Scott Kazmir and Marlon Byrd have resurrected their careers after succeeding in the Caribbean Series. He hasn't received any formal offers yet, but he remains hopeful.
“I have had 11 years in the big leagues, so I’m not complaining, but I’m not ready to shut it down. I’m 35 and I told my wife this would be my last real push at it. I have four kids, my oldest is in middle school, but I still have the desire and love for the game.”
There’s still a long road ahead of him if he intends to make it back to the big leagues, but after learning to pitch to contact and rely heavily on his sinker in St. Louis, Pineiro could find a way to be effective even though he doesn’t have the same velocity as he used to.
This winter, Pineiro has gone 2-0 with a 3.12 ERA in 26 innings for the Puerto Rican club. He turned 35 last September.
