Bronson Arroyo rumors: Pitcher’s demands drop in stale market

Arroyo has lowered his demands from three years to two.

Free agent pitcher Bronson Arroyo has lowered his contract demands in an apparent effort to accelerate negotiations with three teams, according to the New Post's Joel Sherman. Sherman cites that the Oriole and Diamondbacks are two of those clubs, saying they're "definitely pushing."

Arroyo expressed some frustration with the stale free agent market at the end of January with the “I don’t have an offer to turn down” line that was subsequently disputed.

Now, he appears to have lowered his demand for a three-year deal, which could expedite the process rather quickly. He’s said to be seeking something in tyne neighborhood of $11 million per season.

Teams might have been hesitant to extend him a three-year offer for the simple fact that he turn 37 this month. He's been incredibly durable -- he's one of only four pitchers who have thrown over 2,000 innings since 2004 -- and his time with the Reds has been a steady march of slightly-better-than-league-average consistency. Last season, Arroyo posted 30-plus starts for the ninth straight season, putting together 202 innings with a 3.79 ERA.
