The 21-year-old Taveras has impressed throughout his time in the minor leagues, but after injuring his ankle in 2013, he has only 186 plate appearances under his belt at the Triple-A level. With the departure of right fielder Carlos Beltran this offseason, some had speculated that Taveras could be in position to grab the Cardinals' right field job.
That might still happen during the season, but for now, Taveras remains sidelined with leg problems and doesn’t look likely to make the Cardinals’ big league roster when Opening Day arrives.

The Angels have officially released pitcher Mark Mulder after the left-hander tore his Achilles earlier in spring training, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times. Mulder, who hadn't pitched in MLB since 2008, was hoping to make a comeback this season with the Angels. The 36-year-old made two All-Star teams earlier in his career and also finished second in the AL Cy Young voting back in 2001.
Mulder owns a career 4.18 ERA and was hoping to latch on with the Angels after signing a minor league deal in January. But the lefty was forced to undergo Achilles surgery, ending his time with the team and, for now, his comeback attempt.

Grady Sizemore could make up to $6 million this season with the Red Sox if he qualifies for a number of contract incentives, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford. Sizemore has impressed in spring training thus far, and if he makes Boston's Opening Day roster, the outfielder will earn an additional $250,000 on top of his guaranteed $750,000.
The 31-year-old would then earn $250,000 if he reaches 60, 90, 120 and 150 days in the big leagues this season. Sizemore will also make $250,000 for increments of 25 plate appearances, starting at 225 and reaching to 500. The eight-year veteran’s contract also has numerous performance-based incentives, including a $50,000 bonus if he were to win the AL’s Comeback Player of the Year Award.
