Good thing Ervin Santana was still available.
Brandon Beachy injury: Braves starter could need second Tommy John surgery
After receiving bad news on Kris Medlen, the Braves may suffer another long-term blow.

The Atlanta Braves will be without starter Kris Medlen for another long stretch due to a likely Tommy John surgery, which will be his second such operation. Few pitchers have been able to return to the majors after undergoing the procedure for a second time, and now it appears as though another Braves pitcher could be headed for the same dilemma.
Brandon Beachy could require a second Tommy John surgery, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Dave O'Brien.
Beachy told O’Brien there was a “lot of frustration,” and that he was “really, really frustrated.”
The 27-year-old worked his way back to the majors last season after his spectacular 2012 campaign was cut short by his first TJS. That season, Beachy had a 2.00 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP through 81 innings, and appeared to be on his way to being a fixture at the front end of the Braves rotation. Last season, he returned to post a 4.50 ERA in 30 innings as he worked his way back into shape.
If Beachy and Medlen both have the operation again, the Braves might miss out on two incredibly promising players. Many advancements have been made in to the surgery, but not many pitchers have returned to prominence from multiple operations. The Rangers' Joakim Soria is battling his way back from a second TJS, but he has yet to return to the dominance he displayed in his 20s.
